Piccolo at 111 Middle St
Wednesday the 23rd my friend Warren Fraser is coming up from NYC to host a wine dinner at Piccolo. Warren imports some of my favorite Italian wines including many from off the beaten path in southern Italy. Piccolo focuses on the cuisines of Calabria and Abruzzo where chef/owner Damien Sansonetti's anscetors came from. It's going to be a really good match of food, wine, and philosophies. Damien is working on a five course menu to pair with Warren's wines and I've already made reservations. $75 plus tax and tip is the price. The menu is still being worked out but there are some really exciting looking dishes: gnocchi with lardo and Maine whelks is one and the main course is being built around roasted local lamb. Call 207 747 5307 for reservations. There are 20 seats here, but after my reservation and some others who heard about it by word of mouth there are only about 12 up for grabs.
